Oblift 1

Created in the summer of 2011, the original Oblift channel was home to 'CleanPoolWater,' my very first YouTube video. For about a year, I uploaded only silly clips of my family members. Then, in October, 2012, I finally revealed the boy behind the camera and created a new video each Saturday for the next ten months. What makes Oblift 1 significant is that I was widely known for these videos among my peers in middle and even high school. Also, it was the only channel on which my videos were ever monetized, earning between $.02 and $.28 annually. Unfortunately, as a minor, I was never able to claim the pennies. At this point, I've made private all but the five videos below.

Pointless Water Test

I uploaded this unlisted video on October 21, 2012 and it features only me. The pointless water test is perhaps my most iconic upload ever, providing a 1 to 10 rating on the tastes of five different brands of water, including Poland Springs, Dasani, Aquafina, Nirvana, and a Georgian water called 'Borjomi.' I found one of them—as you can tell from the video—completely revolting. Which do you think it was?

Hungarian Accent vs. American Accent

I uploaded this unlisted video on April 27, 2013 and it features my grandmother, Anyu, and me. This is the original, heavily-criticized Hungarian accent video and my most viewed Oblift upload of all time. Of the more than one hundred comments, many were composed in Hungarian; others, including, "Hope in a few years you will get it what a rubbish you have made in this video and how wrong it is to lower your grandma..." were written in English. Needless to say, my intention was never to disparage my grandmother. But, in retrospect, I can see how it could be perceived that way. Do you think it was rude?

Make Sure to Tapister the Gimboflex

I uploaded this unlisted video on October 27, 2012 and it features only me. Less than a weak after the popular 'Pointless Water Test,' I decided to make another highly Obliftian video by reciting eleven nonsense words I'd made up years earlier—but in a grammatical English sentence. I may have invented 'tapister,' 'gimboflex,' 'zinterack,' 'inishter,' 'comerkalt,' 'vislinar,' 'mintickly,' 'salsat,' 'yingler,' 'penirutt,' and 'ridoter,' but I still don't know what they mean. Can you decipher any meaning from the video?

Harlem Shake

I uploaded this unlisted video on March 9, 2013 and it features my grandmother, Anyu, my step-grandfather, George, and me. In February of that year, the 'Harlem Shake' dance meme descended on the Internet and—determined not to be left out of the latest viral trend—I devised my own version featuring the two oldest people in my life. But, they've really got some good moves! How'd we do?

Pathetic Bottle Rocket

I uploaded this unlisted video on August 3, 2013 and it features my mother, my younger brother, Timothy, and me. While at summer camp, nine-year-old Timmy was taught how to make a bottle rocket, which he then reproduced using materials at home. And the long-awaited launch was shared with Oblift's audience. Unfortunately, it was rather anticlimactic—hence 'pathetic.' Based on the video, is the title fair?
