Plaques

Under my leadership, the Woodworking Club received many requests to make cherry plaques, which I usually volunteered to build alone. Then, I would ask students from STEM Club (now Engineering Club), another after-school activity, to help me engrave the metal plate that attaches to the plaques' surfaces.

Cherry METCO Plaque

I built this American cherry plaque in my second semester of sophomore year. Woodworking Club's final community service project of the 2016/2017 school year was to construct a plaque commemorating the 50th anniversary of Wellesley High School's METCO Program. I made the wood part by myself using lots of high-grit sandpaper and aerosol lacquer before collaborating on the metal engraving with a partner.

Cherry WMS Reading Room Plaque

I built this American cherry plaque in my first semester of junior year in high school. Faculty members at Wellesley Middle School requested a small plaque to commemorate their reading room, which was dedicated in memory of Brenda Hoye, 56, the former secretary of Schofield Elementary School, who died from ALS in 2015. The construction process was nearly identical to that of the METCO plaque.

Cherry Apple Award Plaque

I built this American cherry plaque in my second semester of junior year in high school. In early 2018, the high school administration requested that the Woodworking Club construct a series of 'apple awards' to recognize a teacher each month for his or her outstanding performance. Using a 3D printer, we made an apple stencil that was used to cut out plaques on the bandsaw. I'm unsure if the club still produces them.
