The Kersey Channel

Lasting from September 5, 2015 to February 6, 2016—a span of six months—the Kersey Channel is perhaps my most well thought-out, organized, and complete video projects of all time. The idea was to bring stories and events from the life of my then-88-year-old step-grandfather, George Kersey, to new light as a YouTube presentation. Originally, I envisioned it as part of a larger production involving more elderly individuals called Untold Until Now (derived from the channel's tagline: "stories untold, until now"), but that never materialized. George—or 'Kersey' (as he was known by viewers)—and I created exactly forty episodes within ten clearly-defined chapters; they ranged from his time in high school in the early 1940s to his participation in the Occupation of Japan—to MIT and Harvard Law School—all the way to the independent legal work he performs to this day. Although we were never able to gather a significant following during the project, we did attract a few loyal fans who appreciated the heartfelt stories and historical intrigue from the life of Kersey. As a result, the videos are still public on YouTube.

The Formal Introduction

On September 5, 2015, George formally introduced the channel by discussing the basic concept behind the project and what potential subscribers could expect to see in the future. Later, I uploaded The Director's Complete Introduction (see below) in which I made a few corrections.

The Radio Announcer

On September 5, 2015, we released our pilot episode on Kersey's experience as a radio announcer in Colorado during the Second World War. With this, I confirmed his masterful ability to distill unscripted stories into eloquent, sub-five-minute videos. Note: the man in the thumbnail is not George.

The Director's Complete Introduction

On September 11, 2016, less than a week after our first upload, I introduced the channel with my own vision for its future (as the 'director'/'producer'). This is the only video that features me.

Tripos Exam

On November 25, 2015, we released our twentieth episode (halfway through the project) in which Kersey discussed his experience with the tripos exam at the University of Cambridge. What makes this episode special is that with over 3,500 views, it accounts for more than half of all channel views, presumably because there are so few videos on YouTube about the subject.

Kersey's Formal Conclusion

On February 6, 2016, Kersey concluded the project and thanked our handful of viewers for sticking around that long. For years, commenters have speculated that we stopped because George was sick and has since died. On the contrary, we never intended to make more than forty episodes, even if there were stories left out. Every good thing must come to and end. Thankfully, George is still alive and well at 94.
